About Dr. Becky

Dr. Becky Keating completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Saint Mary’s University with Honours Psychology.  Her Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical-Developmental Psychology were completed at York University in Toronto.   In addition to completing a number of training placements at hospitals and community mental health clinics, Dr. Keating completed a specialized residency in child and adolescent psychology at the State University of New York (SUNY), Upstate Medical Centre.  She has also worked at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario and for the Child and Youth Mental Health Clinic for NSHealth- Annapolis Valley Hospital for 12 years providing assessment and interventions and serving as the Director of Training for Psychology for 5 years.  She also worked as a Consultant for Psychological Services with the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education for four years prior to transitioning to full time private practice.

Dr. Keating’s Clinical-Developmental training provides her with a broad understanding of “normal” cognitive, social, and emotional development; and behaviour essential in identifying and treating common mental health and behavioural problems in children and adolescents.  She was trained as a scientist-practitioner preparing her to work with children, adolescents, and their families using assessment and therapies well supported by research.  Dr. Keating uses a biopsychosocial model to understand children and adolescents where biological, psychological, and social factors,  in addition to life events and issues are taken together to understand problems.  Treatment aims to address as many factors as possible to improve overall functioning.
